Life Imitates Art: Weekly Photo Challenge

Life Imitates Art.

For the weekly photo challenge I decided this is my photographic answer to the Group of Seven.  One of the guidelines states “Find Inspiration in a piece of art, and go further: imitate it.”  I haven’t exactly imitated, I just updated and contemporized by using very digital photography.

The above photo was taken on a gondala ride at Massif Ski Hill in the Charlevoix region of Québec. It was shot on my old Leica D-Lux 4 a fun consumer grade point and shoot. This camera allows you to easily change formats, which can be kind of fun. The Leica colour space is great for landscapes. It seems to be more saturated than other colour spaces. I don’t usually manipulate colours and go crazy on the computer, but I did for this one. The scene and the Charlevoix region always make me think of the Group of Seven. The manipulated colours in the photo, remind me of some paint colours used by different members in original paintings I have seen.

Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson spent time lots of time in the area. Here is his bust outside the tourist building in Baie Saint Paul, Qc.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone from class has been up to during reading week. Needless to say I wish I could spend mine in Charlevoix!
